Have you heard of any Bigfoot sightings lately?
Don’t be fooled, I’m actually being serious.
You know the giant hairy creature that looks half-human, half-ape? You may have heard people refer to him as Sasquatch.
According to Wikipedia, “Bigfoot … is a cryptid which supposedly is a simian-like creature of American folklore that is said to inhabit forests, especially in the Pacific Northwest.”
The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization has reported 628 Sasquatch Sightings in the State of Washington.
I think most people know the stories of Bigfoot by now. I mean, who could forget the infamous 1987 family favorite, Harry and the Hendersons, when Bigfoot became a household name?
But like a lot of us, including myself, it’s nothing more than a folktale.
“Scientists discount the existence of Bigfoot and consider it to be a combination of folklore, misidentification, and hoax…” (Wikipedia)
Hoax, you say?
Hmmm… that’s interesting.
Because Skamania County, Washington State (home of Wind Mountain Ranch) has a Bigfoot Ordinance that was first put in the books in April 1969 (No. 69-01), and then partially repealed and amended in 1984 (1984-2).
What’s even more peculiar is the fact that the Skamania County Ordinances and County Code page has a section dedicated to Bigfoot, which is basically archaic considering that they only archive the last 10 years of County ordinances online.
It’s as if the County is promoting such legend.
Maybe they know more than we do?
In fact, simply enter “Bigfoot” into any search engine and you could get lost for days reading all of the material and evidence over the last several decades.
Sites like Washington Bigfoot caters to Bigfoot believers just in Washington State alone.
Where it stands since 1984, the Board of Commissioners of Skamania County declared Bigfoot “to be an endangered species of Skamania County” and “created a Sasquatch Refuge” within the borders of Skamania County.
Things just got real, huh?
The ordinance goes onto proclaim that the “slaying of Sasquatch shall be punishable up to one year in the county jail or a $1,000 fine, or both.”
Well, fact or fiction, we know one truth – the thought is pretty fun.
Wouldn’t you agree?
