Summer is approaching fast. School will be out, activities dwindle down and the sun will be shining (hopefully), giving everyone a chance to slow down and take a deep breath.
Ahhhh, my favorite time of year…
The forest is a good place to do that, to get some good quality oxygen. Whether you are camping (maybe staying with us at Wind Mountain Ranch?!), or just simply need to get in the car and take a drive, we’ve got the perfect spot for you.
McClellan Observation Site is a place where you can sit and soak in the views of the south side of Mt. St. Helens and all its glory.
It’s an easy drive from Carson, Wash.
From Hwy 14, take Wind River Hwy to Carson and keep traveling. At the “Y” after the fish hatchery, continue on the highway following the winding road. Turn left on Curley Creek Rd where you will find the observation entrance on your right.
The roads leading to the site are all paved and the parking lot is paved, too. Great for motorcycles! There are even picnic tables and a nice rock wall to rest against, which displays factual information about the lookout and mountain.
Bring your camera and maybe your lunch, too.
Tell us. Where’s your favorite place to catch a glimpse of Mt. St. Helens?
