Nature’s Legacy

Wind Mountain is located along the Cascade Volcanic Arc, formed by basalt flows between 5 - 7 million years ago. Though relatively young by mountain standards, it has been weathered by wind and water since a time only the earth remembers. Humans are estimated to have settled in the area around 10,000 years ago, after the Missoula Floods carved rivers into the valley.

Over time, these first people became the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, Stl’pulmsh (Cowlitz), Yakama, Confederated Tribes of the Warm Siletz, Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla. The land north of the Columbia River Gorge is their ancestral home. Wind Mountain carries significance to the Native Americans as a Spirit Quest destination and is home to a sacred archaeological site near the summit.

At the dawn of the 19th century, the Lewis & Clark Expedition traversed the area, commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson to find a practical route to the west coast. The Corps of Discovery charted the land, studied the flora & fauna, and traded specially-minted silver medals with the peaceful tribes they met. The expedition spent a very wet autumn camping along the north side of the Columbia River before arriving at the Pacific Ocean in December 1805. By the end of the century, Oregon and Washington would become states.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create an environment that transports guests away from daily life, and into the extraordinary present moment. We don’t just provide a remarkable physical space where memorable moments are created, we produce instances of human connection where intangible, unforgettable impressions are made.

OUR VALUES

We are a hospitality company above all. We value honesty, integrity, hard work, and personal growth. We strive to be creative, support local business owners, and contribute to our community in a meaningful way.

OUR STORY

This dream of ours began at The Griffin House and has since expanded past the property to embrace that feeling of being, beyond time, yet effortlessly aligned with place. It is an ethereal experience, where all the senses are engaged & ‘now’ is all that matters. From here, all things are possible, and we’re honored to continue living our mission by seeking spaces & places to make your most magical memories feel like they happened yesterday, forever.
